BORN TO SHOOT THE WORLD AROUND ME

Every artist remembers the first time that they fell in love with their craft. My moment happened when I got my first camera as a present: a bright pink Barbie film camera. In next to no time, it became my favourite accessory. I never went anywhere without it. Many of my favourite memories have been seen through the lens of a camera. What had begun as a desire to capture a moment that was beautiful to me has become a desire to share that beauty with the world.

Today I have upgraded my tools but I carry that memory with me into my photography art, which I have grown to love more over the years. I pursued other career paths after school but the passion for photography remained with me. This ongoing passion gave me the fuel I needed to start pursuing it full-time.

My great love for Africa and nature has encouraged my passion to save our precious planet. Preserving nature and fighting extinction is a cause close to my heart. We all need to do our part to help minimize our ecological footprint in the world. I hope to raise awareness through my photography by capturing the beauty on our doorstep. More people are moved by images of beauty than by images of destruction. I hope to encourage more people to see, value and become proactive themselves.

Tharien Pieterse was born and raised in South Africa. She is originally from Mpumalanga province but now lives and works between her first home in a small town in Limpopo near Thabazimbi; and her second home in Hartenbos, in the Eden region of the Western Cape.

Always Searching For The Shot

My love of photography is eclipsed only by my love for Africa. My childhood was spent close to nature, and I see detail and inherent beauty in what is untamed and wild. I love to capture this beauty through my lens. Given the opportunity, I will pursue the perfect shot to do justice to the beauty I see.

Photo Editing

We all have photo’s with small imperfections that bother us, whether it is a shadow in the wrong place
or maybe even someone with their eyes closed. Photo editing is a long and laborious process.
Sometimes, all a photo needs is a little TLC to make it into an art piece.

Photo restoration

Restoration is different from editing in the sense that it means taking an old film photograph that has
been damaged and putting it back together. It takes a long time to restore all the small details and
remove imperfections. It is worth it though to bring back old memories and makes the perfect gift to any
parent or grandparent.

Photoshoots

If you are looking for generic photoshoots you are in the wrong place. I am not your average
photographer and I prefer to do above average photoshoots. I can recreate (or at least try) any photo
you want and a photoshoot session happens where it is convenient for you.
If that includes a day out on a farm or just a baby shoot in your nursery, I am sure I can accommodate
you and get you a unique photoshoot that means you will remember the special moments forever.

Pet photography

Being an animal lover myself I understand how special our furry friends become to us. They become our
children and give us unconditional love and understanding. It will be a privilege to capture special
moments. I generally don’t mind what you consider to be a pet, big or small, but I will under no
circumstances work with snakes.

Family Shoots

Family is what you make it and I would like to capture those moments that are truly special. I take a
different approach to family shoots. Like any other photo shoot, it can happen where you feel most
comfortable, whether that is in a part or at home on your couch I will try to accommodate all tastes and
styles.

Event photography

If you have an upcoming event and need a photographer, I will gladly take on any event you have
scheduled. Whether it is a Wedding, birthday, kids party, work function or just a small fundraiser I will
be glad to help out.

Sport photography

For all small sporting events or even just to get some good photos of your children’s sporting events. If
you are an organizer for a small sporting event, I will gladly come to take pictures to commemorate the
event.
